Frequently Asked Questions

No. Happily, no. Perhaps the most critical distinction in our model of care centers on a direct, personal relationship between you and your doctor. While the benefits of an insurance company might apply to having surgery or other such emergencies, we see no reason for any insurer to have a voice about either the quality or the cost of your family’s primary care.

We forgo insurance payments in order to save our patients from the arbitrary, intrusive decisions that inevitably follow with third-party payors. Furthermore, our direct arrangement allows us to offer you wholesale prices on laboratory tests, imaging, and medications, which is  prohibited by partnering with insurance companies.

Not happy with your overpriced health insurance? Check out - Sedera.

Yes. You certainly can keep any insurance you already have. We recommend our patients continue at least a major medical plan with a high deductible and health savings account to help should hospitalization or referral to a specialist be necessary.

Other patients choose to work with cost sharing programs like Sedera, Samaritan Ministries, Liberty HealthShare, or others.

However, we understand that many hard working people simply cannot afford insurance. We are proud to provide excellent, affordable primary care to patients who otherwise cannot afford access to healthcare.

Yes. You need only sign a one-time waiver declaring that neither you nor your doctor will directly bill Medicare for our services. Medicare will still cover any laboratory testing, imaging, medications, or hospitalizations prescribed by our office.

Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is an innovative alternative model of primary care that puts patients first by getting rid of the red tape and restrictions of a traditional, insurance-based practices.

The restrictions of insurance companies typically leave physicians buried in nonsense paperwork. With Direct Primary Care, we get to spend our time where it really counts: with patients. In refusing to recognize any interference with the sanctity of the patient-physician relationship, we have returned family medicine to its root values of clinical excellence and compassionate knowledge of every patient.

At Blue Lotus Family Medicine, we give the gift of time. Every visit, for whatever reason, will be thorough, relaxed in answering your questions and addressing the need of the moment, and helping you plan for the future. Then, as the months and years go by, we’ll build a comprehensive, intimate knowledge of your health, in a way that is simply not possibly in any other model of care.

Give us a call! We'd be happy to discuss any questions you have. Also, feel free to stop by and get a cup of tea. It’s a great way to begin what we hope will be an effective, healthy relationship.

Of course. We might argue that everyone benefits from a service tailored directly to them. That’s why we offer truly custom primary care. Our practice is devoted to the maintenance of your good health and total well-being. A membership to our practice offers not only excellent primary care, but also classes, groups, and educational materials that can enhance your body, mind, and spirit even if you don't have a chronic illness.

We are proud to provide true Family Medicine care with "womb to tomb" services. We care for most chronic medical conditions, illnesses, injuries, and minor emergencies. In fact, 80% of healthcare needs can be cared for in a primary care office.

While we love caring for all life stages and family members, our passion for women and children set us apart. We have experience delivering hundreds of babies and we would love to be a part of that special time in the life of you and your family. Obstetric care is provided as an add-on service if desired and all costs will be discussed ahead of time, to help you plan appropriately.

In addition, we provide much needed support for newborn care, breastfeeding, and life-stage transitions for women; all services that are sorely neglected in a time-crunched insurance-based model.

Lastly, we do provide DOT physicals free for members and for a one-time fee for non-members.

Unfortunately, no. Most immunizations can be done at the local pharmacy or Health Departments either through your insurance or for a low-cost fee.

In providing superb care with unprecedented access, we seek to prevent or reduce hospitalizations and specialty referrals. In instances where those types of care are required, we will continue to work with these other providers to ensure you receive excellent care. In the future, we hope to offer in-patient services to our members as well.

By all means, yes! Because illness and injury do not respect regular office hours, you may call your physicians any day, at any hour. If medically necessary, we can arrange for home visits. If you prefer, you may also use our secure patient portal to access your medical record and then e-mail, text, or video conference with your physician. It’s how we do custom healthcare. However, in respect to our own families, we ask that you contact us during business hours when at all possible.

That is included in your membership as well! We can streamline your care when you’re sick away from home. Many illnesses can be diagnosed and treated with a simple conversation by phone, email, text, or video conference. We will locate the nearest pharmacy and order the medications most appropriate for your circumstances.

Please note, however, that some illnesses and injuries are not amendable to this sort of remote treatment. If we can not be 100% certain of the diagnosis and your safety, we will make an appropriate plan with you.

It's all true! We are excited to offer something far better than what the insurance industry is offering you.
What if…

  • Your phone calls were returned the day you made them?
  • You had clear pricing for medications at the time they were prescribed?
  • You knew exactly how much all of your non-emergency medical care was going to cost you?
  • You could see your doctor and not worry about surprise bills later?
  • You could email, text, or video conference with your doctor or send photos related to questions?
  • We would love to speak to you more whenever you're ready for something better.
